Make Money As An Affiliate

Affiliate Marketing Scams

Affiliate marketing is a great way to make money, but it also relies on a certain amount of trust between affiliate and publisher. Because of this it is important to know what to look out for when it comes to affiliate marketing scams, whether you're a publisher or an affiliate.

Publisher Scams

Affiliate marketing relies on the publisher or network accurately tracking which visitors are sent by which affiliates, and then rewarding those who send the traffic that converts to sales. A corrupt publisher could not pay an affiliate all they are owed, or pay a lesser percentage than advertised to try and take more of the profit.

If you're an affiliate and worried about being scammed by a publisher or network, then it's best to stick with one of the more reputable affiliate networks as they are known to be legitimate. Some examples are Clickbank, Commission Junction and PayDotCom. You need to be more careful when signing up to publishers own affiliate programs as these have more potential to be dishonest.

Affiliate Scams

There are also ways an affiliate can attempt to scam a publisher by tricking them into thinking a sale or action has been made and hence gaining commissions.

For example, some publishers pay per click instead of per sale. It is possible for an affiliate to try and set up a script that mimics online behaviour to make the publisher think traffic is being driven to their site when in reality the traffic is worthless. This is one of the main reasons why paying for PPC traffic from an affiliate is a much less popular model than per sale.

In rare cases, an affiliate may try to purchase a product using money that isn't theirs. For example through a hacked Paypal account or stolen credit card.

The best way for publishers to prevent affiliate scams is to check each application individual and only pick the ones that have a well run and reputable website. However this isn't always possible with affiliate networks.

A common method for affiliates to gain sales without actually sending the visitor to the sales page is through a technique known as cookie stuffing. Cookie stuffing is when an affiliate places a tracking cookie on every visitor that enters their site, so that if the visitor then goes and buys a product the affiliate gets the sale even though they didn't send the visitor. Publishers don't want to pay commission on a sale just because the customer visited an affiliate's site beforehand, so this is another example of an affiliate scam.

The majority of affiliates and publishers realise the great benefits for each side when it comes to the affiliate-publisher relationship. If handled correctly, a publisher can make many more sales than otherwise possible with an affiliate program and an affiliate can make a lot of money. Scams will always be found out in the long run and will damage a business when they are. As an affiliate or publisher it's important to keep an eye out for potential scams.

  3. QUESTION:
    Affiliate Marketing?
I'm just signed up for an affiliating marketing program. I was wondering if anyone out there has had any experience with this type of business. Is this a good business? I would like to hear the good as well as the bad. Maybe some good advice on some niches to foucus on. Any tips would be great. I've tried some home business opportunities before but they all were scams. I really want to succeed with this. Thanks to all.

    • ANSWER:
You could focus your niche on things people really want, not what they need because not many people buy what they need they buy what they desire!
You could go to ebay and check the ebay pulse section and find out what people are searching for and buying the most, and then drill down into that niche so that you are not competing in a general niche where thousands of other people are promoting their stuff.
The Lycos top 50 is also another good source to find out what is being searched for the most.
When you find a hot niche you will need to milk it for all it's worth! which means setting up a website with articles on the niche you have chosen, plus the affiliate products you want to promote on there as well.you could also set up an autoresponder so that you can catch peoples email address so that you can carry on selling to them even when they have left your site.
You will also need to write some unique articles based on highly searched for keywords that have low competion anything under 50,000 competing pages should be fine, submit them to ezine articles and include your link to your website in your authors resource box,try to write at least one article per day.
if you do not want to pay for a website then you can easily set up a free blog with either blogger or wordpress.
      remenber to update it daily.
another way to get traffic to your site or blog is to set up a squidoo page on a specific subject in your niche and link it back to your site or blog.
There is a lot more than this to it but if you take it step by step and continue to build around your niche then over time you will start to see the money coming in.

  5. QUESTION:
Is it really possible to earn money online with affiliate marketing?
I'm aware of all the data entry and Google scams, but can you make money with affiliate marketing? What are the most effective methods?

    • ANSWER:
If you think you are going to make money in affiliate marketing, thousands of people have found the opposite.

If you work several hours a day, six days a week, you may make a few hundre dollars a monrh , but even that's not guaranteed. If I was looking to make money in affiliate marketing, I would hire my own employees to do it. Better yet, I would "hire" people who want to make fortunes in on-line marketing.

NO, this is MLM at its worst. You will not make money posting links yourself. You make money getting others to do the work for you. They're called your downstream, and it takes a LOT of time and effort to make enough money to make any real money for yourself. And you can't do it with an investment of 0.00 and then watch the money come rolling it.

MLM is not about selling a product or service. It's about getting other people to sell your products or services for a fraction I would of what I would have to pay my own employees.

Forget about the Ferrari and the mountain chalet. Thinks about the Fiat (high mileage and heavy maintainence and thnik about a deapidated cabin.

Thanks in advance!!! One last thing, if this method is completely false please enlighten me with something else that may help. Thanks again!

What exactly does affiliate marketing do?
A guy came into my work today.. he does something with affiliate marketing (I don't know much about it). He told me that he's expanding his business and he would like to sit down and talk to me about it. I guess offer me a job. I'm kinda young so i'm worried he's trying to scam me. Does anyone know more about this business?

    • ANSWER:
Affiliate marketing is normally what is known as multilevel marketing; and it usually is a scam, but not always. If it involves insurance sales, run away fast!

ADDED: One poster stated that my statement above is incorrect, as "affiliate marketing" and "multilevel marketing" are not synonymous. He is technically correct; many great companies offer affiliate marketing programs, but most of the programs widely advertised as business opportunities for those without prior expertise tend to be MLM. Some are absolute scams, some are totally legit in every respect; but most are going to be duds for most of the people who try them.

  14. QUESTION:
Is there any honest affiliate marketing sites at all or any website online where I can make some spare change?
I'm in school and I just wanted to know if there was any real affiliate marketing sites cause I did research on most sites and well they turned out to be scams.

    • ANSWER:
No. There are no honest "affiliate" sites which sell good products at a fair price. They all just want you to recruit new "members".

Most businesses want more buyers for their products. The "affiliate" sites only want more sellers. That is not a business-model that can work.

You won't make any money at those sites.

  15. QUESTION:
Which one is better than the other when it comes to making more money: Affiliate marketing or own online?
business? Marketing/business or investing? I need serious answers and please no scam. If you could also recommend books on affiliate marketing/online business/business and how and where to invest, I will be very grateful. Thank you

    • ANSWER:
I have seen plenty of expert advice indicating that having your own product is key to the most profitable internet businesses. The experts also advise that customers be made repeat customers by offering upgrade, side-grade back-end products. (Similarly a typical infomercial order conversation might include 7 different add-on offers) It's best to identify a small pond (niche) where you can be a big fish, rather than a competitive field like diet, pharmaceuticals where your new business ends up on page 10 of the search engines.

Some suggest the shortest path to fast money is in CPA promotion, in which you have to be prepared to promote borderline scammy offers like free gift trials and take some financial risks. One pricey training program The Arbitrage Conspiracy is starting a second series, the first time around some students made it big but more lost thousands in search of their "golden nuggets".

Some people blow thousands on secret formula tutorials containing recycled information. I have heard experts without vested interests suggest one can learn enough hanging out at marketing forums like WickedFire or WarriorForum, a well focused work ethic is ultimately more valuable than the latest marketing trick.

  23. QUESTION:
What's the deal on Anthony Morrison Affiliate Marketing? Is this just another scam? Anyone take his courses?

    • ANSWER:
This kid is a total scam king, He charges about 4000 bucks to give you a web page and a few tips on how to make money online. Everything sounds so pretty an easy but its not. What you are basically selling are credit cards. You will get paid for approval according to them and not get cheated. He is like the middle man between the credit card companies and you. He tells you that the best way to advertise your webpage is google adwords which is totally false. He tells you that you will only have to pay about 5 to 25 cents per clic and that you will see crazy amounts of money coming withing the next few weeks. Totally false, google charges about .00+ per click or sometimes more if you want to be in the 1st page for this keyword and related keywords. There is also no way to see if you are making any sales right away because since they are the middle man they can intercept them and take weeks for them to post them in your account so forget about twitching your marketing campaigns if you see they are not working because you cant see anything . If you make money or not is not important to them because most people dont. As long as you sign the contract you are doomed. I remember the guy dave gilmore or whatever his name is: "Anthony made 0,000 by only spending 0 in advertising with Google". Not true

  24. QUESTION:
How to do affiliate marketing for really unfamilliar beginners.?
Hello everyone! I am a 19 year old female interested in affiliate marketing. Now, I am completely new to this and don't know much about it at all and I do not have a website or a blog. I have so much spare time on my hands so I figured why not use it to make extra income from the internet! I was thinking of using Ebay to sell affiliate products but not sure if this is allowed. I really don't know where to start or what I need to have in order to get started, but I do know there are a few scams out there. I was hoping any affiliate marketers or anyone with experience could help me out. Thanks guys!

    • ANSWER:
Here is a very basic plan to get started...

      1. Pick a product. Choose a physical product from commission junction, clickbank, or an independent affiliate program from a directory like the one below.

      2. Setup either a domain with the product name, or a free blog at wordpress.com or blogger.com to have something to link to. You can just buy a domain name with your own hosting and redirect to the affiliate product with your link. Write 1 'presell' page that explains the benefits of the product with multiple buttons/links with your affiliate link to the product home page.

      3. Write articles with your product keywords in the titles and also listed 3-5 times throughout each aritcle and point the links to your domain or blog. For a beginner article marketing works well. So write 3-5 articles about the product, an overview if your not familiar with the product in a review style format. Submit to the major article directories like ezinearticles, goarticles, articlesbase, squidoo, and hubpages and place links at the bottom of the article with a call to action to your domain or blog.

      4. Signup at some social bookmarking sites and then social bookmark your articles AND your blog.

      5. Repeat the above steps with another product

Do that on a consistent basis and you'll be making money in no time. Good luck.

  25. QUESTION:
Can people really make a living as an Affiliate marketer?
I have seen dozens of programs being sold on the internet that claim they will show you how to make a six figure income from affiliate marketing. Are any of these programs for real, and if so which ones? Or, are they all scams that make money by selling their product to lazy, gullible people who think they can make money while they sit at home and do nothing?

    • ANSWER:
Yes, some people do but only people who are willing to put a great deal of time into it and genuine effort. There are a lot of scams out there but there are also some legitimate ones. SFI is a very legit program and is even listed with the Better Business Bureau. However, with them, you only make residual income as an EA...For more info on them go to below website

  30. QUESTION:
can one actually earn money with "affiliate marketing"?
read something online that sounds like a legitimate deal. i usually assume all online money-making programs are a scam. are there real jobs out there that pay decently for working online from home?

    • ANSWER:
Affiliate marketing is, in most cases, just another term for MLM, pyramid, and similar schemes. Most of the times, the affiliate marketing revolves around some kind of digital "product" that has to be marketed, and as an affiliate, it is up to you to actually make sales of the product. As a reward for the sales, you will get commissions.

Now, the crux is that actually getting leads and selling the product is a lot more work and takes a lot of invested time (and often money) to successfully pull off; in comparison, the commission received is quite disproportional for most affiliate marketing systems and setups - depending on the way it is set up, you might have to deal with a "down-line": if you are offered partial commissions from people you sign up, especially multiple levels, you can be certain that you will NOT be able to make a decent buck from it unless you manage to get a lot of people to sign up under you who actually do the work. In that respect, it's a scam, because getting out of the bottom layer of such systems is usually incredibly difficult.

The people trying to sign you up are, of course, trying to use all the tricks in the book to have them let you do their work for them (since that is what "affiliate marketing" is all about, in the simplest terms.

  31. QUESTION:
Affiliate marketing scheme ( Affiliate Junktion) IS THIS A CON?
I have just come across a website that is making some amazing promises. Its called Affiliate junktion and they promise people who sign up could realistically earn 0 per day. It is all to do with marketing there software and generating leads for them, they apparently provide all the software needed and offer support. There is absolutly no cost to sign up. I am normaly really sceptical with online promises because they always seem too good to be true and usually have hidden costs but this site is definatly free to join. Has anyone here had any experience with this company and if so could you possibly tell me what it would involve on my part. Are these realistic earnings if I was to put in say 5 hours per day? Or is it all just another online scam? Any advice or info would be great? check them out with this address to see for yourself.

    • ANSWER:
its a con..google them with the word "scam" and you will see. If your looking for leads for earning there are only 2 sites i recommend for job leads. workathomemomrevolution.blogspot.com and http://workhomesecrets.blogspot.com they are both free and you will see the quality of the post. they aren't trying to make a buck off you. the other site is junk..sorry

  32. QUESTION:
Affiliate Marketing sites....tricking search engines....spying on other competitors....what is your take this?
There are A LOT of advertisers on the Net now promoting affiliate marketing and internet sites selling digital ebooks and other such products, using techniques that could be called both questionable morally and ethically, or even legally. What do you all think about all this? One such book recently that is very popular is called The Rich Jerk....it is popular, but gives advice to people to use tactics that are morally unethical...thus, the term "rich jerk"......do we want to let them get away with this crap? Seems like the search engines themselves will start changing their entire set-up of their programming to prevent these scam artists from making money off of them.....most of these people claim to have made "millions at home" from these tactics. Anyone actually tried some of them and it worked....anyone actually tried them and then felt guilty for the tactics used to make such money? Anyone wonder if the legality of all this is going to come down on these people one day?

    • ANSWER:
Its not right but more and more companies are doing this. Right now not that many laws about it. Its going to keep the federal government and state governments busy enacting laws about this. Be kind of tough to catch but it will make law enforcement and lawyers busy in the future.

  33. QUESTION:
Do "free traffic" software downloads really work? ~affiliate marketing~?
I'm trying to start affiliate marketing. Currently I have an idea of direct offering with click bank e-book products on Microsoft ad-center. (Google banned me, that's why I switched to Microsoft ad-center) I also tried facebook as well. Anyway I've seen possible "instant traffic" kind of websites out there like this: http://www.cbgainer.com/go.php?offer=gwm4al&pid=24 and was wondering if this stuff works? Or if it is just a scam...I'm seen multiple websites out there and most of them look like b.s... Ive also tried to promote my own website..it didn't work out, it wasn't for me at all..it takes to long with all the SEO and crap like that..I'm only targeting people who know about direct offering and sites like the link above..thanks!! any answer will help..

    • ANSWER:
      Hello Tyler

Some free traffic software downloads do work and some don’t, actually most do not work that I have found. Once you find one “free traffic” software that does work you should stick with who ever made it and only purchase other software they suggest. Any time I find a program that does not work I return it asap. I have probably returned about 100 programs or more lol. I feel if I don’t learn anything new from the program I return it. I will not return it if I learn several thing I never knew that are actually helpful.

      Good luck with your venture

  34. QUESTION:
Does anyone out there make money with Amazon aStore or other affiliate marketing? If so can you teach me?
I want to learn how to do affiliate marketing using google adwords or something of that nature. I have seen some websites for sale recently but am afraid to commit to purchasing one because they could easily be a scam. So I figured, why not learn on my own. I am not looking to "get rich quick", I just want some extra income. An example would be an Amazon affiliate site where all the products on my website are just links to products already sold on Amazon and when someone clicks from my site to Amazon and buys something I get a commission.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

    • ANSWER:
It is very possible to make money off of affiliate marketing.

First thing though, I highly recommend against using adwords when you're first starting out. Google Adwords is PPC marketing and is one of the more difficult and costly methods. It is really easy to screw up with it and when you do, you can end up losing quite a bit of money.

I'm glad you recognize and are not looking to "get rich quick." A lot of marketers fall for scams because this is what they aim for. You need to work and put in time and effort to earn profits.

There are a bunch of ways to go about affiliate marketing and a few of them are actually free. These include article marketing and video marketing. You can actually submit articles about a product on sites like squidoo, which don't cost a thing to write. Or you could create a video review of products on sites like YouTube.

That being said, there is a right and wrong way to go about your approaches. The difference is why some people profit well off their ventures while others see there attempts collecting dust. A site that really helped me out is 404 reviews.
      http://www.404reviews.com

They have a guide book that talks about everything to do with internet marketing. They tell you what to look out for in terms of scams and potential costly pitfalls. They tell you important details such as what to keep in mind and how to connect with your audience but the best thing of all is that they talk about methods. I don't just mean a mere mention of them. They go into great detail explaining a bunch of information about various techniques, how they work, and a step by step guide of how to implement each and every one of them. It's really a great book and it helped me out a lot.

Does internet marketing such as working with affiliate programs work? I know some are scams. But do you know of any that is not a scam?

    • ANSWER:
You need to send your resume out to real jobs you are qualified to do.

In your cover letter you need to state that you wish to work remotely, from your home office. LOTS of companies, especially in CA operate this way. They usually provide transportation for you to come in for an interview and for you to attend company meetings a few times a year, but otherwise everything is done online.

  41. QUESTION:
How much site traffic is needed to make a decent amount of money with affiliate marketing?
So Im making a website, and Im hoping over time that I can get a decent amount of traffic everyday, and then get some ads, and links to other sites for some jangle (money). I know that the money is not going to be flying in, but I was just wondering how much traffic would be needed to make lets just say like 1,000 dollars a month or something similar, and what are some helpful hints to make more money?
    PLEASE NO SCAM LINKS!
    thank you in advance!

    • ANSWER:
This is a tricky questions as it does depend on a lot of factors. Here are some things you can do to increase your chance at success and get that jangle flowing...

      1. Provide Value - Offer information on your site that people want to look at. Don't just scatter a bunch of affiliate links.

      2. Learn a little about SEO - Learn how keywords can increase your rankings in search engines and get you more organic traffic. Also learn about link building.

      3. Learn about different affiliate tactics - Your question is broad and you will want to choose a tactic. Will you use Adsense? Will you use affiliate links? What affiliate programs will you use (there are many)

Here are some resources that might help...

http://www.clicknewz.com/ - This is a blog by a super affiliate. I like her blog because it is not too salesy (scammy) and she provides some good practical information.

http://31dfchk-3hmvhy7mp9825nbv6a.hop.cl… - This is a salesy looking page, but Rosiland is another super affiliate that is highly recommended. Her program is first rate and you will find a lot of people suggest it as a great starting place to find information.

      http://www.warriorforum.com/
      http://forums.digitalpoint.com/
These are two of the most popular forums to find information on how to be a successful affiliate marketer. If you are going the cheap route, these forums have all the information that you need for free (although you will have to wade through a lot of crap). You might get frustrated searching for answers which is why a program like Rosilands will come in handy.

  42. QUESTION:
How can one make money online without falling for scams?
Every day we see people saying, this is the ultimate way to rake in millions, they bring up all sorts of affiliate pro gramme, market ting, then they ask you to pay some dollars to unlock their pro gramme, you try these and nothing comes out of it.Isn't there a way one can make a good living working online?

    • ANSWER:
The simplest and cheapest way is to start a blog on something you are passionate about. Use all the free tools out there (blogger, wordpress, adsense, etc.) - Google has them all.

To get your feet wet online, this is the best way without investing any money - just your time and commitment. See if it works. You may not like it. Or you might just love it (especially if there is money coming in).

Also, get a good blogging guide. Rob Benwell's 'Blogging To The Bank 3' is my recommendation.

After that, you can move on to affiliate products (linkshare, commission junction, clickbank) but you have to focus on a certain niche to be successful. Take your time to learn - there are many FREE resources out there. You don't have to spend a dime to learn and profit online!

      Good luck!

Has anyone made money with Anthony Morrison's program/course? Is the information worth the cost?
I have seen many different programs to get started in affiliate marketing. Most of which, by using common sense, are scams. I know that much of the information can be found for free over the internet and through networking. Using Anthony Morrison's program seems as though it could be helpful but I would like some feedback from people who have actually purchased and implemented his strategies and techniques.

    • ANSWER:

  45. QUESTION:
Is there even an easy way to make money online? 500-800 a month perhaps?
I've been trying to make money on the net since 1999 and have yet to make a cent. I recognise scams when I see them. I have tried affiliate marketing, drop - shipping etc.

Is there ACTUALLY a way to make even a little amount like 0 - 600 a month on the internet. Like a full proof way? If not I think I'm gonna give up for good. For that matter are there any businesses out there that could make that little bit of money that is easy to set up?
Thanks for your responoses. Just for the people who like to jump the gun, I HAVE tried the hard way. I have spent thousands on websites, design, products, everything. The HARD hasn't worked either. I owned several websites, invested thousands, and to no avail, so leave your judgement elsewhere. 46. QUESTION:
Has anyone successfully made and continue to make any $ in an Affiliate Program? Is it just another scam or no
Just wondering how to make $ online, aside from e-bay and online trading. Seems like Affiliate Marketing seems promising in making $ automatically once everything is set up and going. I was just wondering if anyone has been doing it for a living?

    • ANSWER:
Well I work with a company that uses affiliate marketing and network marketing. It would be silly to say that affiliate marketing is a scam. Scroll to the bottom of any major website and there will be a little link that says "become an affiliate". Affiliate marketing pays on performance and saves companies millions of dollars in advertising alone. Your job is to be aware of what it takes for an affiliate marketing or network marketing company to be successful. That way when looking at a company you can make a legitimate assessment of whether that company is a good option for you. I say this because the average Joe will ask his poor friend/neighbor/relative for financial advice rather than educating themselves. If you find a good company the potential for creating residual income is amazing. I did my best to put in my two cents, if you still have questions just send me an email.

  47. QUESTION:
Is it possible to earn an honest income of 0 a week in the internet?
I have heard of several income opportunities beein offred in the internet; affiliate marketing, paid online survey, paid surfing etc etc promising big bucks, i always doubt them. Most are scams, however some are legitimate ones. I dont expect for an instant bucks, i just want a honest to goodness income from a flexible, low risk investment opportunities.

    • ANSWER:
The short answer: Yes, one can earn an honest income of 0 a week on the internet. I work with affiliates on a daily basis who make this and more! Some of the opportunities you listed require you to complete surveys or are paid to surf the web. I do not suggest these programs. I do however suggest you create a web site. Learn how to build a sticky website and generate traffic from search engines. Once you have some traffic, there are different ways to monetize that traffic. You can then join affiliate programs. Affiliate programs pay you when you refer someone to make a purchase at the merchant site. For instance, when you become an Associate (same as affiliate) for Amazon.com, you can refer people to buy books (through your affiliate link) and you get paid a commission whenever a sale happens. There are many affiliate programs tha you can join and most, if not all, are free. There is also something called Google Adsnese and pays you whenever someone clicks on an advertisement on your site. Do some searching on the "affiliate programs", "search engine optimization (SEO)" and "Google Adsense" without the quots and read. This should get you going. Once you understand the concept, make your website. If you do not have a product to sell, then write high value content (uqniue and value added) and search engines will index your website and hopefully send you some traffic. Once you have traffic, you can monetize the eyeballs landing on your site. Tip, keep making good content pages!

      Good luck!

Does anyone know of any call centers to work at home from?
IN CANADA! I am looking to work from home and reside in Canada, no scams, no click pays, no affiliate marketing, really looking for online call center from CANADA.
    thanks

    • ANSWER:
You can only obtain legitimate work from home positions from brick and mortar companies.

You want to send your resume out to companies hiring for positions you are qualified for, but include in your resume that you have a home office and you wish to work remotely. Include how you have your home office set up and what equipment you already have in order for you to perform your job.

These jobs are just going to advertised as jobs, they would not promote them as "work at home" because they would hear from too many unqualified people.

  50. QUESTION:
Can I find a real online job that pays?
I hate surveys, data entry, affiliate marketing and money making systems!! They are all BIG SCAMS… I have spent thousands looking for a real online job!! I am frustrated!

    • ANSWER:
You can find legitimate home businesses in the areas of direct sales, affiliate marketing, and network/referral marketing, encompassing a variety of product lines and/or services. Some legitimate telecommuting and freelance opportunities include customer service, virtual assistant, tutor, telemarketer, sales, transcription, translation, blogging, online guide, writer, editor, consultant, concierge, nursing, mystery shopping, tech support, marketing, and online juror.
Funny how such a great invention as the internet has brought in this generation of people that "pay thousands" when looking for a job!
