You can join google.com/adsense. This program lets you post google ads on your site and you get paid every time someone clicks on an ad.

azoogleads.com is a great pay-per-lead broker. You affiliate with companies who will pay you for a verified lead. Like a completed car loan application.

You can join Commissionjunction.com, amazon.com, and linkshare.com to affilaite with companies who generally have a product to sell. You put product reviews on your site with a link to the company like bestbuy.com. You get paid a commission on a completed sale.

You can join clickbank.com if you want to sell digital products like an ebook that can be downloaded and read. Typical products include weight loss and marketing ebooks.

The above are generally the top affiliate brokers who will match you up with companies based on your website. Try to focus your website on a particular area of interest or product.

I'm about to begin an internet marketing campaign and promote affiliate prducts. Who is the top paying affiliate program?

    • ANSWER:
The way I make money online is by making websites. You do not need to be a genius either.

These websites are targeted to niche markets and promote ebay items for related goods. I add in amazon ads and other big search engine ads that we had best not mention. Its a great income from many sources.

I reckon anyone can do using the program I do. Ebay pay .00 per new sign up and 50% of any revenue they make from a sale if someone buys through your site.

  12. QUESTION:
What's the best way to become successful at any type of affiliate program?
I read that 99% of the people who get involved in affiliate programs hardly make any money. Only the top 1% affiliate marketers earn a high income. What's the difference(s) that separates the winners from the losers?

    • ANSWER:
I make money online through affiliate programs. They can be very lucrative, but you really need to be careful when signing up with a company. There are a lot of scams. Look for a company with little or no start up fee. You also want a company that offers excellent training. Check out the products or services that the company offers to see if you find them reliable. Establish a start up budget, and schedule some time to work on your business. The failure rate in this business is high because most people don’t invest the time and energy needed to succeed. You have to believe in your ability to succeed 100%!

Amazon.com has one of the biggest affiliate programs around. If you have your own website, you can apply at http://affiliate-program.amazon.com/gp/associates/join

You can also join Commission Junction http://www.cj.com or Linkshare http://www.linkshare.com to join affiliate programs of big companies. Joining is free

Have you made money with Ebay's affiliate program?
I have mostly only heard of people making around 0 or less per month with ebay's affiliate program. Has anyone ever made good money with this program? I know that ebay's top earners made over 1 million in a year, but that was probably because they are popular site with large amounts of traffic. If you do make good money, how do you do it?

    • ANSWER:
Long ago, yes, eBay's affiliate program was a money maker for us. That was the time when new buyers and sellers were signing up.

Today the business landscape has changed for ebay. For one, it seems most people are already members. Second, people are realizing that the deals on eBay are harder to come by and sellers are finding the marketplace too expensive so they are leaving in droves

  19. QUESTION:
EMBED AFFILIATE LINKS IN DOMAIN NAME?
Hello friends, I am a newbie in the field of internet marketing. I intent to initiate article marketing with affiliate links embedded in the resource box. But article directories do not permit to put direct affiliate links in their resource box. For instance ezinearticle says:
    EzineArticles.com Editorial Guidelines: (AFFILIATE PROGRAMS):

Affiliate links will be allowed if the link is a domain name you own which forward/redirects to the affiliate link from the top-level of the domain name. For example, it is permissible to forward to an affiliate link from:

    http://your-company-name.com/

...but it would not be permissible to forward to an affiliate link from:

    http://your-company-name.com/page.html
    http://your-company-name.com/subdirectory/
    http://your-company-name.com/subdirectory/page.html
    http://sub-domain.your-company-name.com/

Any article with an affiliate link that does not adhere to this guideline will cause the article to be rejected.
Now my questions are: 1.would a free domain name from blogger.com do?
    2. Is it possible to embed affiliate links in my domain, so that each time one clicks the domain name would be send directly to the vendor’s website instead of my blog. I want to use my domain name as a bridge between my articles and the vendor’s websites. If it is possible how can I do it?
    3.Do article directories allow it?
    4. Is it legit?
    THANKS FOR YOUR ANSWER.
N.B. ANSWER IF YOU KNOW IT VERY WELL.

    • ANSWER:
I remember getting away with signing up for a free blog on blogger and editing the html so it redirects to your affiliate link when you type in your site (http://www.XXXXX.blogspot.com)

You'll have to search around for the redirect code.

  20. QUESTION:
PUTTING AFFILIATE LINKS IN SUB-DOMAIN NAME?
Hello friends, I am a newbie in the field of internet marketing. I intent to initiate article marketing with affiliate links embedded in the resource box. But article directories do not permit to put direct affiliate links in their resource box. For instance ezinearticle says:

    http://sub-domain.your-company-name.com/

Any article with an affiliate link that does not adhere to this guideline will cause the article to be rejected.
Now my questions are: 1.would a free sub-domain name from blogger.com do?

    • ANSWER:
With Ezine I would just put the link to your blog and forward from there. You can try a redirect with them but a lot of times if the page isn't a top level page then they won't accept it. Although, I have seen people use redirects and get away with it. I never have though. They must be kissing some ass or something. Other article directories will allow it but read the guidelines first to avoid a lot of rejection.

Another thing you can do is buy a cheap domain name from godaddy and 'mask' your affiliate link with your new domain name. This will force your new domain url to stay in view instead of the vendors url. Some companies do not allow this though but it will be stated in their 'affiliate contract'. Godaddy makes it easy to mask the url. For instance my http://enlightenment-course.com is my masked url...and http://enlightenmentcourse.com is the actual vendors url. I just added a dash between the words.

I wouldn't use blogger because you could lose those domain names down the road and then your 'bridge' would be lost. It would work for right now though.

I own my own websites and this is the page redirect I use:

      content="0;url=affiliate link here">

      optional text here

      Good luck!

    • ANSWER:
All internet domains have to be hosted somewhere. Yes, I know you could set up your own Apache server and do your own hosting but you will still have to purchase the domain name and pay to get it recognized on the web. Unless you are prepared to set this all up, the answer is, it can't be done without hosting.

  22. QUESTION:
    Whats better? CJ, Amazon, Yahoo...?
What Affiliate Program do you think is best?

    a. It is hard to compare affiliate networks. They work differently for different affiliates depending on what merchants they use. Acclaim Network has top-performing affiliate programs for credit related offers such as credit cards and credit reports; other networks are much better if you're looking to promote wine. Similar for Amazon with Books.

    • ANSWER:
As of December 1st the best affiliate program will be Bookwise, which will pay out a full 50% of the profits instead of the token 4-5%. It will offer 1.5 million titles (books, CDs, DVDs, and in 2008 videogames) with order fulfillment by Baker and Taylor (same company that does fulfillment for Amazon.

You can also setup franchise stores under yours and get 10% of the profits from each of them.

  24. QUESTION:
How to attract advertising to my site - 1,000+ legit daily visitors?
I have a patriotic site that rates #1 on Google for many of my pages. I receive over 1,000 visitors/day. It's #1 out of 2.2 million for patriotic clothing. Always at the top for military searches. (Total 3,582,742 (visits - not page views). All verifiable at sitemeter)

How do I attract/advertise paying advertisers to my site?

I currently earn commission from affiliate programs, but feel my traffic should interest some advertisers.
Edit: search words for google: patriotic clothing

    • ANSWER:
There are several ways you can earn money from advertising:

      1. Join an advertising network. Advertising networks are organizations that aggregate Web sites that offer advertising space, and sell banner ads (and other advertising options) across them. Traffic requirement is often a minimum of 5,000 monthly impressions, although many do not accept sites hosted by free page services.

      Burst Media http://www.burstmedia.com
      Fastclick (ValueClick). http://www.fastclick.com
      Advertising.com. http://www.advertising.com
      Tribal Fusion http://www.tribalfusion.com

      2. Participate in contextual advertising networks. Contextual advertising are text ads delivered based on the content of the web page using an automated system.

      Google Adsense https://www.google.com/adsense/
Yahoo! Publishing Network (currently in beta and available to US publishers only) http://publisher.yahoo.com/
      Intellixt http://vibrantmedia.com/site/web_01a5.htm
      Quigo Adsonar http://www.quigo.com/adsonarexchange.htm
      IndustryBrains http://www.industrybrains.com
      Commission Junction Evolution http://www.cj.com
      Kanoodle Brightads http://www.kanoodle.com/about/brightads.html
      Clicksor http://www.clicksor.com/affiliate_programs.php
      Contextweb http://www.contextweb.com/
      Bidclix http://www.bidclix.com/
      Bidvertiser http://www.bidvertiser.com/

      3. Sell advertising for your site directly. This is admittedly a more difficult route for a small business site wanting to earn advertising revenues. But hey, as they say: "no pain, no gain!"

      Advertisers are looking for:

      1. Number of pageviews and unique visitors
      2. Who are your traffic and whether your traffic is who they are looking for.
      3. How are you measuring the effectiveness of their campaign - do you have a real time statistics that can show them whether their campaigns are being seen and getting clicks
      4. How comparable/realistic are your rates compared to similar websites

More than the traffic numbers, #2 or who your audiences are is the key to attracting advertisers. That is what you need to focus on and think of how to get that information. You can run a survey on your site that will allow you to learn who your core audiences are.

In my website which is an information site targeting small and home based entrepreneurs, advertisers often ask us what percentage of our visitors are just thinking of starting a business and what percentage are already running their business. This information cannot be given by any website traffic statistics software. You have to do surveys.

Prepare a media kit containing information about your audience, your advertising packages, rates, and arguments why it is best to advertise on your website

  25. QUESTION:
How To Promote My New Book (Amazon or Affiliate Program)?
I'm self-publishing my new book about to be published shortly through LightningSource. Here's my dilemma as a self-published, self-marketing author:

    1. Do I leave fulfillment to LightningSource/Amazon who will charge me 55% right off the top, leaving me with much smaller margins (the cost of the book will come from my share, the remaining 45%) and focus on just marketing the book? If I take this route, then I can't do much for affiliates and Joint Venture partners, but reduces a lot of S&H overhead.

    2. Do I do the fulfillment myself, selling the book for lower than Amazon, worrying about shipping and handling (especially international shipments, refunds, etc)? This approach will give help me pay decent amounts to affiliates, JV partners and bulk resellers, but increases my order- processing overhead.

    What do you think?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

The other problem with selling on Amazon is that Amazon will not share the buyer's contact info with you (unless I'm wrong?).

So, I'm trying to figure out what's the best way to market on Amazon, as well as on my web site - but the major problem of doing it on my web site is figuring out the shipping price for international buyers.

  27. QUESTION:
In a trademark dispute, does the principle of licensee estoppel apply if there was no license agreement?
For more than 5 years, I was a top-performing affiliate for a small online retailer. The company has now terminated its affiliate program and they've demanded I surrender several web sites and domains I've owned claiming trademark infringement.

I've owned these domains since 2003 and 2004... I sent them millions in sales over the years, and they never had a problem with them until now. Dirty rats.

I'd like to petition to cancel the mark on the Supplemental Register that seems to be the root of all the controversy. Frankly, I never knew they had a mark until I got the first C & D. The lawyers tell me that although it could be a generic term, I'm barred from petitioning to cancel based on "licensee estoppel."

"A trademark licensee is precluded from challenging the validity of the licensed marks, or, for example, the enforceability of the agreement itself as a prohibited “naked” transfer. The estoppel applies not only during the term of the agreement but also after it expires, unless the challenge is based on events occurring after the agreement’s expiration."

Here's what gets me: There never was any Trademark License Agreement, and the Affiliate Agreement (which remained unchanged from 2002 until they ended the program) doesn't mention anything at all about their ownership of a mark. Can I still file a petition to cancel?

    • ANSWER:
Okay, so you use the mark on your domains for more than 5 years and millions in sales, then suddenly the retailer claims "trademark infringement" when they cancel their affiliate program?

If this is a case of typosquatting like Land's End v. Remy. Take Jerry's advice. If it's not, then your domains are your domains. Instead of threatening you with infringement, it would be a lot smarter for them to settle. A cancellation proceeding could cost them hundreds of thousands in legal fees.

First, a mark entered on the Supplemental Register doesn't have the same rights as a Principal Register Trademark, specifically the presumptions of ownership, validity, or exclusivity. For those reasons, WIPO won't pursue a UDRP for a mark entered on the Supplemental Register.

"A complainant’s registration of a mark on the Supplemental Register does not confer any rights under the UDRP because the Supplemental Register provides a complainant no protectable rights." First American Real Estate Solutions L.P. v. Manila Industries, Inc.

Second, if the Affiliate Agreement is silent on the use of their mark then there is not a binding Trademark License Agreement. With no license agreement, the question of licensee estoppel is moot. File the petition to cancel. If the company claims estoppel, demand they produce the TLA. See Boss Prods., Inc. v. Port-a-Pit Bar-B-Que

Finally, if they allowed you to use the mark for 5 or more years without any complaint, then any infringement action would be dismissed for Acquiescence or Laches. If other affiliates or non-affiliated third parties have also been using the mark for that length of time, you may want to consider Abandonment (Naked Licensing, Failure to Police) as another grounds for cancellation.

I provide health coaching service on the phone to customers throughout the USA and as well provide quality meal replacements as part of the program. The meal replacements are provided by the leading, physician-lead company in the US with a 30 year history and top ranked profile.
I have a website that serves as a landing page for the potential client and is dedicated exclusively to this service. I pay excellent commissions.
Wherever i look, I see programs for those wanting to promote the products of others. I want to get a big team of enthusiastic affiliates who are promoting MY program, and I in turn pay them commissions for new clients who come on board.
Where can I go to set this up?

  30. QUESTION:
How could I make money with this idea? PPC or what?
I was thinking about making a website about a certain market, X. So the distributors of market X do not have affiliate programs of any kind. When typed into Google what some of the top companies in the country carry, none of them come up. Just smaller, less established companies that are competitors. I was wanting to make a website that broke down market X into categories and in each category I would have a list of distributors that carried that certain item. I figured that if I would do this I could eventually get a high click through ratio, but I have no idea what how I would make money from this. Any input would help. Thanks!
Ok, if anyone else reads this. My goal is to maybe get such a high click through rate that these companies will want me to keep my website up, and possibly pay me for it seeing that I am bringing them traffic to their websites. Is that possible, or is there a better way. Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
Scrap the idea of marketing affiliate x and go with making money with Adsense.

Setting up your own website and using SEO is the best way to make money online. Selling Adsense space on your site will allow you to monetize the site and make money.

Search traffic is by FAR the highest converting type of traffic and that’s where you can make money. In other words, traffic from Google and other keyword-based search engines will get you more clicks (or sales if that’s your game) than you can get from any other source. If you can learn to get traffic from Google and other search engines, you’ll never struggle to make money online. That’s the honest truth, and the best way to make money online.

Use Google’s Keyword Tool to find paying keywords. Paying keywords are keywords that are worth the investment in ranking high in Google. Going after the keyword “loans” is crazy and you’ll be wasting your time because it’s too competitive. Huge companies pay thousands of dollars a month, or even more, and have unlimited resources to rank high for keywords like that. You’ll waste your precious time and money.

You need to know how to calculate the potential income a keyword can produce and you need to know whether you can get your site to get listed in Google for the keyword. If
both of those variables align, you have a winning (as in profitable) keyword.

Search a keyword and refine the search by “exact” match. Then sort the search by two categories: Search Volume (Global), and CPC (Cost per click). Download the .csv file into Excel and hack it down into three colums. “Keywords, Search Volume, and CPC”. In that order. Then setup a fourth column and put a title in that first cell of the fourth column “Potential Income”. In the first cell below “Potential Income”, (should be D2) type this: “=” then click on B2, then type “*.4” then type “*” then click on C2, then type “*.25” then type “*.05”. If that’s confusing, here’s the formula for finding income potential for keywords:

      (Search Volume x 40%) x (CPC x 25%) x 5% = Monthly Income Potential of a
      Keyword

      “=B2*.4*C2*.25*.05”

Hit enter, and you should get a dollar amount in the fourth column. Copy that formula and paste it all the way down the column until you see dollar amounts all the way down. Then sort the whole spreadsheet by the fourth column, or Income Potential. Get rid of all keyword rows that are less than /month potential. Don’t waste your time. Also, if you have a pretty general keyword you might have some extravagant numbers like ,000/month. Don’t bother. Only big companies with huge resources are able to rank for a keyword like that.

Now comes the fun part. Using either Firefox SEO or Google Toolbar, do a search at Google.com for each keyword in your list. Each resulting page should have a PageRank number next to it, or “PR”. Look at the first four sites that come up from that search. If any of those are PR4 or higher, don’t bother wasting time and resources to rank high for that keyword. You want sites that are PR0, PR1, PR2, or PR3 in the top four in Google for your keyword. That way, using single links from single sites and blogrolls, you can easily get ranked first in Google for your keyword and make money online, virtually hands free.

Sorry if this is a long explanation, but I believe people deserve real, concrete information when deciding to make money online. See the links below for much, much more information.

  31. QUESTION:
Anyone know a great business design?
After years of being disappointed in all the online businesses I have come across, I am now looking at starting my own online business. I want to start my own business because I am so sick of the way these other online businesses work. Such as the very popular affiliate programs. In order for people to make a decent amount of money from it they have to be really good at marketing. 90% of affiliates fail miserably making nothing or next to nothing. It can be very difficult to make money online especially for the average person. Not to mention countless scams out there taking advantage of the newbies. I do not want to join a business & promote it for others to join too, knowing damn well that 90% of the people I bring into the business are simply going fail. They will put their time, energy, effort & money into it & are going to fail. Some will succeed but most will fail. That's just the way these businesses are. I do not want to be responsible for bringing people into this sort of thing. I do not want to take someones money & then watch them fail miserably. All the different online business opportunities I've seen have their flaws. Whether it's affiliate programs, cash gifting, paid surveys, paid to click ads, paid to read emails, auto surf sites, any referral programs, or any other thing, they all seem to have one thing in common. That the vast majority of people that join the business are doomed to fail. Or at least make very little money that they certainly cannot live off. I have been searching for a perfect business where it is easy for everyone to make money. All I have seen all over the place are businesses that really only work for the people on the top, while the vast majority fail. Some of these are very competitive businesses too. And none are a win/win situation where everyone is better off, there is always someone worse off. So basically I have been researching, reading, doing some critical thinking, to come up with some sort of revolutionary design where everyone wins & it is generally very easy for everyone to make money. I have had a few ideas better then your average online business opportunity but none are that great. I have been thinking of everything I can to make it easy for someone to make money online but I can't really guarantee people will succeed. I am beginning to think such a perfect business does not exist. If it did why hasn't anyone created such a thing yet?
I am trying to create an online business where it is generally easy to make money for anybody. No hype, no scam, no bs, just a damn good honest business that actually works for everyone.
I'm just looking for any advice or opinions on business designs & any info you think might help in the creation of a 'perfect business'.
    Thank you for any comments.

  32. QUESTION:
    Good online business ideas?
Before i start, please give this question some thought to what it is i want (best answer will be rewarded)

I want some good business ideas for making money online with out relying on search engines and affiliates in the future!

I am thinking on a large scale and of course over many years and a lot of time and money spent to get this really big.

    What i mean is:

Relying on search engines and affiliate programs at first to grow the business of course. But I don't want to rely on any affiliate programs like AdSense for my income nor the search engines forever, i want to be able to forget about them and have a online business that stands on its own 2 feet.

Some might say search engines with PPC, they are good, but this is not what i want to start, the competition is at the top.

Having my own PPC ads is something worth having a look at, like Facebook, it is not a search engine, but they do have PPC ads and Facebook don't need search engines for users or any affiliates for their income.

So any ideas? even if they take a long time to get established, I am not looking to make any quick money or any decent money for few years, I am in it for the long run.

Thanks for reading my long winded question.
***TO Akash R*** This is not what i mean i don't care bout making money for few years, I want to start something seroius thats going to last, Your forex thing is all a gamble, I am after buisness thats going to stay around and helpful for mu users.

    • ANSWER:
Think of a business that is based on what you are most interested in doing and on what you are most skilled at. You might also want to look at what services are in demand these days.

      For example:

      1. Social media
      2. Market research
      3. Website design
      4. Website development

If you don't have any of these skills, you can still make money by hiring people with these set of skills to work for you. You get them clients, you earn money, you pay them what is due to them.

Whatever business you decide to do later on, make sure you do some market research to back up your decisions. With the right market research, it would be easier to come up with product ideas and with strong and effective marketing strategies.

  33. QUESTION:
Anyone know how to make extra money without having an initial investment?
Is there any program anywhere that is not charging a single penny to try and get in that will actually pay you?
I am a married man who is almost 37 with a wife and teenage boy who eats more than a horse ( I swear). I have failed miserably at starting up my own painting business (homes and so forth) Our finances are totally shot, the bills do not stop and garnishments have already begun, even though there is no money in the bank. On top of those bills the bank adds their overdraft and garnishment fees that I have to pay on top of the debts I already have. I am so frustrated with the online deals for government grants or surveys. They all tell you it is free to get in, yet every stinking time you go to sign up they ask for some $ either for shipping & handling or join an affiliate program where you have to buy something else from some other company. Well, the problem is, we do not have any $ in which to start from. The few survey programs I started over a year ago have never paid me one single penny so I stray away from those. I have paid for a grant thing once before just to be bombarded a month and a half later with extra charges from other companies that were associated with the initial sign up. I do not remember granting access to my bank accounts to these companies. Although it was there in the fine print. Anyhow, as I mumble on..... does anyone know af anything I can get into to?

There is no base pay and the atmosphere room and chanting and not being allowed to sit or lean during atmosphere is exactly like described in DS Max affiliates. Also is it possible that the company owner not even be aware that they are a DS Max affiliate, because no one who works there seems to be able to figure out who is at the top of this company. how to make money at home online?
Co-founded by former world leading GDI sponsor, James Al-Oboudi
Are you tired of the same old affiliate marketing programs built on systems that serve only the people at the top? So were we. That's why we created Revolutionary Matrix. You will make ,000 a month once you and your team have filed your downline. http://www.RevolutionaryBeginning.com

    • ANSWER:
      Hi Justin,

The number one question going though thousands of minds - How to make money from home online? A very profitable and easy way is affiliate marketing, described below.

One of the best ways to make money from home online is Internet Marketing.
Because the Internet is enormous there are dozens of different ways to make money online.

Affiliate Marketing is one avenue within Internet Marketing.

Simply put affiliate marketing is advertising. Companies don't want to hire a whole department for advertising. They would have to pay thousands of dollars or more for payroll, insurance, unemployment funds and so on. So instead they set up accounts with trusted affiliate programs.

There is a company called Clickbank, it is an affiliate program, and one of the largest.
Now Clickbank allows individuals to join as an affiliate, which by the way is free to join. From there you can choose over thousands of products to promote online. Once you have a product you then take a special link and post it pretty much anywhere on the Internet. By anywhere I'm referring to forums, chat rooms, blogs, emails, and your own websites. The list goes on and on.

The problem is I found this great website called wealthy affiliate university. Here is the link http://www.wealthyaffiliate.com/ ( read up on it). I found people reviewing it online, in yahoo answers, and even in youtube. Many people use it and has been making profit on it because of the helpful information. Unfortunately my parents thinks its to expensive because its per month. Is there any other free information online or even books that has top quality information. Also this may not be part of the question but do you know where I can find information about building robots like in MIT, programming, building Operating systems (OS), and business. Also don't think I'm just some uneducated teen trying to get money. I'm a straight A student so I can afford to put a few hours into this a week. Thank you in Advance. :)

  38. QUESTION:
Using wordpress to design a site that includes affiliate marketing?
I bought my first domain name today through godaddy.com. I then created my first site (or blog) using wordpress. After doing some research I found hostgator to be a better option than godaddy's host service so I went with them. With hostgator as my host I forwarded the traffic from the domain I bought through godaddy to the site I created with wordpress. Did a test and by typing in my domain name into the bar up top... what do ya know, I got to my site! I was happy lol. I still couldn't get to it through the search engine, even when I typed in my actual domain name, but I did that within seconds of signing up so I figured it may not be registered yet. I then signed up with commission junction to start posting affiliate links on my site. After searching around a bit I found a relevant program and decided to sign up with it. Tried to post on my wordpress blog and it didn't work saying they only allow advertising if you have a stand alone wordpress site through one of their approved hosting servers.. or something along those lines. And to my surprise... I didn't see hostgator on the list. Did I just waste the dollars on hostgator or can I still somehow use my wordpress page through their host service and include aflliliate links on it? If so how do I do it? When I was surfing this forum I though I remember people saying you can use a webpage designed through wordpress with any host out there.

-Side note, I'm a complete newbie to affliate marketing. I've been researching the topic for a few weeks now. I decided to go through all this; buying a domain, setting up a website, and signing up with a host as a learning experience.

  39. QUESTION:
Why can't I get One HD on my HD Set Top Box (connected to my CRT TV set), yet I can get ABC 2 and SBS Two?
I bought a High Definition Set Top Box on Tuesday, and One HD was supposed to be launched in Tasmania and other regional areas of Australia on July 2 at 7:00 PM, yet although I can get the exisiting analogue channels and the digital channels such as ABC 2, ABC HD, SBS TWO, and the local affiliate for Ten (TDT) when I do an Auto Scan of my DG TEC (DG HD-03) STB, One HD doesn't appear in the program/channel list.

I press the number buttons: 12, 1 and 50 (apparently what One HD is meant to be on) and a dialog box appears on my old NEC Cathode Ray Tube TV set that nothing exists on those channel numbers.

It turns out, the outdoor antenna we'd had for somewhere between 5 to 15 years, receives the digital signal/reception for digital channels such as ABC 2 and SBS TWO, so why can't I get Ten's One HD here in Hobart, on my new high definition Set Top Box, even though I live near Mount Wellington?

  40. QUESTION:
    How do affiliates sell?
I'm working for a clothing company and we are on an affiliate program. I am their guy who checks what's happening with the sales and BOY!! are these guys are selling!!. I don't know how they are doing it but they are doing it.

1st - They are not selling because they have great SEO - Doesn't seem so, I couldn't find our top sellers' website anywhere on Google though I tried different related keywords to lure the site out.

2nd - I find that they have more inbound back links then outbound. In fact, I checked our top sellers' website on website2value.com and they only have 17 yahoo back links and that's it.

3rd - they have so many categories and within those categories, thousands of different products yet they are able to sell from each category just the same.

Apart from the subscriptions, returning customers can any body tell me how they are doing it please?
    Thank you!

  41. QUESTION:
Are cable companies violating federal law by charging a monthly fee for cable cards?
    Keyword here is assurance.

Section 629 of the Communications Act, as amended by the Telecommunications Act of 1996 instructs the Commission to "adopt regulations to assure the commercial availability, to consumers . . . of . . . equipment used . . . to access multichannel video programming and other services offered over multichannel video programming systems, from manufacturers, retailers, and other vendors not affiliated with any multichannel video programming distributor." Additionally, Section 629 states that Commission rules "shall not prescribe regulations . . . which would jeopardize security of . . . services offered over multichannel video programming systems, or impede the legal rights of a provider of such services to prevent theft of service."

Again, keyword here is assure. By charging the same 4.95 monthly fee as a set-top box, and not offering true two way capability, how are Cox, Verizon, and Comcast assuring anything. They shun cable-card technology, and if you want a tivo with dual capability, you still have to pay the cable companies .00 per month x2 cards (.00) plus tivo's fees. By charging these fees, "consumer assurance" is priced out.

    Class action anyone?

    • ANSWER:
The spirit of the Act is to provide choice to consumers to get a set-top box from anywhere they want. It does not mean free service.
Of course cable companies make it REALLY hard to get someone-else's box and I agree, paying /month for a card, on top of the monthly service is a little bit too much. But I think most cable companies only ask for a one time fee for a card (-) and then you just pay for your regular service.

February 24, 2009 (Burbank, California) The CW announced today the early pickups of six series, including five of the network’s signature dramas and the reality hit AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL, which will all return in Fall 2009.

“As we continue to build The CW Network as a destination for young women, these six shows have clearly contributed to strengthening our schedule and our brand identity,” said Dawn Ostroff, President, Entertainment, The CW. “By securing these signature hits for next season, we’re furthering our commitment to deliver high-quality, original programming to our viewers, advertisers and affiliates.”

Among the series receiving early pickups for next season are The CW’s Monday tandem of sophomore sensation GOSSIP GIRL and ONE TREE HILL, which combined to lift The CW to become the fall’s #1 network on Monday with women 18-34. Both GOSSIP GIRL and ONE TREE HILL have scored double-digit gains compared to their previous seasons. Freshman hit 90210 has improved the network’s Tuesday night by double-digit increases in key demos. Wednesday anchor AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL, which consistently wins its time period with young women, will also be back with superstar Tyra Banks and new groups of aspiring models for cycles 13 and 14.

Also renewed were the network’s established Thursday team of SMALLVILLE, in its ninth season, and SUPERNATURAL, which after posting ratings growth this season, will enter its fifth season next year.

I am a certified Paralegal, and need a law library to do research, not to borrow books. Are their any in NYC?
Queens or Mahattan are okay. Please refer me to a top notch law library. I think, those affiliated with universities that have reputable law programs is the best bet.

    • ANSWER:
Check NYU at Washington Square, there's NYU law school with a law library there; also check Brooklyn Law School on Joralemon street in dntn Brooklyn (it's in the Brooklyn Heights Area); check Fordham Law School in NYC, Touro Law School in dntn Manhattan, Columbia Law School (upper Man.)...that's all I can think of. I don't know the new restrictions for entry, though, since 9/11, but they used to just let people in. Best of luck! Also--check on the Lexus Nexus online law library; you have to join it, but as a paralegal, that may be valuable. Best of luck!

buffy is 100% correct ,an obvious scam. received similar email from a mr hafiz ibrahim this week ,mine was for only 1,000,000 u.s dollars , he advised me too- to keep it confidential , so as to allow his gang (nigerian/ wanted by interpol ) to send large volumes of same or similar emails out. i contacted myspace personnel about a previous 1 million lottery prize,no encryption used at myspace (good on ya murdoch) no reply= months ago , problem too widespread? looks like i am now on a scam list. so expect another attempt. important- run a security scan on drives. good luck.

  49. QUESTION:
    Chances for top 30 university?
I will probably have a 4.3 cumalitive private gpa and a 4.6 UC gpa by application time (3.86 freshman year[B in french 2...], 4.33 sophomore, 4.83 junior). I will take the SATs soon, and from practice tests and the PSAT, I am confident I can get around 2100-2300 my first time. I also think I got 4-5s on the rest of my AP tests (in addition to AP Euro(5) sophomore year), resulting in 4 5s (4s in worst case) total, pertinent to application. SAT IIs also look to be in the 700-800 range. My senior course load is: AP Calculus BC, AP Physics B, AP Comp Gov, Ap Econ, AP Music Theory English, Band.

I play the oboe and English Horn at school, privately, and in major youth orchestras. I am co-principal oboist in one of the youth orchestras. I also have been part of 2 honor groups I have been a member of the school robotics team since sophomore year and will have participated for 3 years by the end of senior year, including FIRST events. I play tennis semi-seriously, occasionally at a tournament or two. I will have been on the varsity track team for 2 years by the end of senior year (pole vaulting). I am part of 2 clubs at school, being the cofounder of one of them (not really documented at school however, at least not that I know of).

I peer-tutor, and have accrued about 400 hours total doing so. I also volunteer at a local thrift shop, providing affordable clothing and merchendise for the underprivilaged, and will garner around 100 hours total for this. Additionally, I am part of CSF, but no leadership in this unfortunately.

A friend and I have started a private charity organization named Young People's Humanitarian Society (not affiliated with school, went through trouble to incorporate and get approved by state sec of state). We are seeking to raise awareness of humanitarian issues, for now domestically, may grow to be internationally (probably not). We are trying to raise money as well, but we have not had it running long enough to see if it will have a concrete impact yet. A detailed and thourough website will be up on this shortly. I have also co-founded a club at school to raise political awareness and espouse the virtues of political dissent. It has been running for about a year since sophomore year. I plan to found some more clubs at the beginning of senior year.

This summer, I am planning to take 2-3 CCCs (community college courses). I have not taken any CCCs to date however. I will also intern (hopefully) at a local engineering company, or otherwise get a job at a gas station (haha). I may also attend a science program/seminar somewhere.

I think I will have recieved around 3-4 awards/honors/scholarships by application time.

As for my negatives, I have only taken up to 3 levels of language (French) and cannot continue because of scheduling conflicts. I applied for a summer internship with NASA, but got rejected (not a direct negative, but I'm paranoid colleges will do the same). Also, based on your judgment, my leadership and community service may be lacking.

I would appreciate it if you could give me some chances for 1) top tier UCs and 2) privates in the top 30 (usc, columbia, duke, vanderbilt, etc).

    • ANSWER:
If you attain SAT scores in the range you are contemplating, unless you apply to an impacted COE major at Berkeley-Eng Undeclared, EECS or Bio-Eng, you should be admitted. The highest your UC A-G GPA can be is 4.33 assuming 6 year long A-G courses Sophomore and Junior year since UC only allows 8 semester long "Honor's" courses to weight the A-G GPA. However, UC's also consider grades in specific courses regardless of A-G GPA, which is mostly used to establish UC minimum scholastic eligibility.
Your community service is not lacking, it's way more than is expected. As for leadership, I think it might have been easier to simply earn an Eagle Scout award. Being co-principal oboeist is a demonstration of leadership. Simply being part of CSF or NHS is a demonstration of leadership. Read this for examples of leadership:
      http://www.academyadmissions.com/admissions/preparation/leadership_prep.php
This is an example of how highly selective colleges score applicants:
      http://www.academyadmissions.com/admissions/selection/scoring.php
Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Stanford, MIT are the most selective. Brown and Dartmouth are a little less selective. You should probably get into at least one or two if you apply to all with a 2250+ SAT and similar SAT Subject Exam scores and 4/5 AP Exams. Look into early decision at Brown, Columbia, Penn, Cornell, Dartmouth and Yale. You should get into most of the other schools you apply to.
      http://www.hernandezcollegeconsulting.com/ivy-league-admissions-statistics-2013/
I would consider that US News rankings at the undergrad level do not directly consider the quality of the faculty. Look at the graduate rankings at schools where the same faculty teach graduate and undergraduate classes like the UC's. The graduate rankings consider the quality of the faculty. Their undergraduate ranking criteria are biased to private universities. Outside the US, all the world's great universities are public including Oxford and Cambridge. By the way, you would be competitive for admission if you have SAT and SAT subject exams in the 700's and 4/5 AP exams. If you can afford to go without worrying about financial aid, I would consider it, but you need to know exactly what you wish to study since in the British system a student only usually studies the subject of the degree. Therefore an Oxbridge BA is at the equivalent level as a US Masters. An alternative international ranking of universities that has used a constant methodology from year to year:

I plan on continuing my muay thai at Sityodtong, but I do wonder if this is a good place to work on the rest of my game?
